Great Deal of Practical
Experience
Judith E. Lee is the authority on the
pressing decisions people need to make at the worst possible
time: when
a friend or loved one is dying or has just died. Fortunately,
this is not a situation most people will encounter
often. And that's what makes it so challenging —we
don't handle these things enough to get good at it.
Judith earned an MA in Psychology, with an emphasis
on death and dying, while building a career in the
nursing home industry. She wanted to be more knowledgeable
in helping those with whom she came into contact. Over
her years in that field, she observed the anguish and
stress people went through upon the death of a loved
one. Wracked with grief, these people were forced to
make decisions they were simply not prepared for. The
stories she tells are fascinating, poignant, and drive
home the importance of knowing what to do when you
are responsible for someone who is dying or has died.
It was these bewildered people,
more than anything else, that motivated Judith to
establish the Death & Dying
Information Center, to make herself available as a
resource person and speaker on the subject, and to
write her first book, What To Do Before & After
Someone Dies. In the book, and through other resources
she has created to help people, Judith provides a step-by-step
approach for getting through these demanding times
with a minimum of stress. She has anticipated every
possible situation and decision and set up a check
list that can be filled out in advance or can be used
to methodically take a grieving person through the
process when each action is needed.
From being with a dying person to handling the final
arrangements, from etiquette in dealing with cultural
or religions concerns to what to say to grieving relatives,
Judith knows it all, and explains how anyone can get
the information quickly and clearly. She deals with
this sensitive topic tastefully yet with lightness
and even humor as appropriate. She is a great resource
and has provided a profoundly valuable reference for
everyone who has family or friends for whom they may
become responsible.
Judith is an articulate writer and
vivacious speaker who presents her ideas clearly
and with caring. She
divides her time between Hawaii and Los Angeles and
is available to speak to groups or consult with individuals.
Her book, What To Do Before & After Someone Dies:
A practical guide to help you through the worst possible
time for making important decisions, is a requirement
for every home reference library.
